Page and Richards 'helped to cement popularity of Hummingbird guitar'

Hummingbird acoustic guitars have been used by stars such as Keith Richards and Jimmy Page down the years.
Great deals on musical instruments

The Gibson Hummingbird acoustic guitar has gone down in history partly thanks to the efforts of Jimmy Page and Keith Richards, it has been claimed.

An article on the Gibson Lifestyle blog looked into the famous past of the instrument, explaining Led Zeppelin star Page used Hummingbirds and Gibson G-20s on famous tracks such as Babe I'm Gonna to Leave You and Ramble On.

It added Richards has been extremely loyal to the Hummingbird, employing it as his acoustic guitar of choice since 1964.

Fans of the Rolling Stones can hear the influence of the instrument on tracks such as Brown Sugar, Wild Horses and Jumping Jack Flash, the post explained.

The Hummingbird was Gibson's first square-shouldered dreadnought acoustic guitar, introduced in 1960.

The company puts the guitar's popularity down to its equally being adept at folk, country and rock music, being a true crossover instrument.

Many Hummingbird users have been attracted to the guitar due to its unique versatility - it gives rich, deep tones whether your strumming chords or taking the lead.

A combination of its wide large mahogany body and select Sitka spruce top add to this breadth of sound, suitable for rhythm or lead guitarists.

Earlier this week, the Gibson website also praised Page for his skills on the electric guitar.

It noted he has a real ability for the effective use of power amp distortion in creating memorable sounds that will stick in the minds of music lovers.
