Patti Smith writes a song about Amy Winehouse
Smith, also known as the Godmother of Punk, told Uncut that her song is based on a poem she wrote about Winehouse, who tragically died at the age of 27 last July.
Her tribute song is set to appear on her new studio album, which doesn't have a release date as of yet.
"The little song for Amy just blossomed in the studio," she told the music magazine.
"We were at [New York studio] Electric Lady doing a whole other song and I wrote Amy a little poem when she died and my bass player, Tony Shanahan, wrote a piece of music and the two matched perfectly."
One of the songs Smith is most famous for is Because the Night, which was co-written with Bruce Springsteen in 1978.
The 65-year-old musician has recently been enjoying a lot of attention over the last five years – she won a National Book Award for her memoir Just Kids and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
