Paul McCartney: I was hacked
The Beatles icon told The Times that he had been shown evidence from the police that revealed in no uncertain terms that his phone had been hacked by newspapers looking for a juicy scoop.
McCartney was exposed to information that showed his phones messages had been viewed while he was divorcing his second wife Heather Mills.
"At the time of the divorce, I realised that there was quite a possibility of many people hacking me for various reasons," he told the newspaper.
"So I used to talk on the phone and say 'If you're taking this down, get a life.' It is a pity not to be able to talk freely on a private call,"
He went on to say that the press might need to be regulated in some way to stop them abusing their freedoms.
"You edit yourself according to the new circumstances of the new world. I think it would be quite good to get some sort of laws," he said.
The singer-songwriter is one of many famous vegetarian celebrities to feature on a new range of stamps from the charity PETA.
