Sir Paul McCartney has propped up support for his good friend and former band mate Ringo Starr by stating publicly that he should have been knighted.

In an interview with Geoff Lloyd on Absolute Radio, the former Beatles legend was asked what he thought about Starr missing out on this year's honours, to which he replied: "Yeah, well, don't look at me."

The electric guitar player was pressed as to what he might say to the Queen, to which he replied jokingly: "The last time I went by she was out. Otherwise I would have popped in and said 'Look, love, Sir Richard Starkey'. Because I do think it's about time, but she probably was a bit busy with Sir Brucie."

In a revealing interview, McCartney said that John Lennon was the driving force to ending The Beatles for good.

Whereas he, Starr and George Harrison had suggested a few more gigs and time to dwell on just what they were considering, Lennon had decided that this was it.

The Fab Four superstar also let slip that the entire back catalogue of The Beatles' hits could be available on Spotify.

McCartney recently hinted that he might be planning on collaborating with the animated music outfit Gorillaz.
