Paul McCartney 'in X Factor talks'
Bass guitar legend Paul McCartney is being lined up to appear on the final of the X Factor, according to a press report.
X Factor supremo Simon Cowell has opened talks with the former Beatle about performing on the talent show's finale, reports the Mirror.
In addition to a performance by McCartney, the final would have a Beatles theme if the bass guitar player accepts Cowell's offer, a show insider told the Mirror.
The source added: "Everybody knows the Beatles wrote some of the best songs in history so it would be a sensational end for the series."
An appearance by a man widely regarded as one of the greatest songwriters of all time on the X Factor would be sure to provoke a mixed reaction.
While the talent show attracts impressive ratings for ITV, it has come in for criticism from some within the music industry.
