Paul McCartney pays tribute to Jimi Hendrix at Isle of Wight gig
Paul McCartney has paid tribute to fellow guitar legend Jimi Hendrix during his headline set at the Isle of Wight Festival.
The former Beatles star closed the event last night (June 13th 2010) and took time to tell the crowd about his friendship with Hendrix, who famously stole the show at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival, reports NME.
"He was a great guy," said McCartney, stating that they had become friends during the 1960s.
"The biggest tribute we [The Beatles] had from him was we released Sgt Pepper on a Friday and then I went to see him on the Sunday and he learnt it."
McCartney then went on to play a few lines of Hendrix classic Purple Haze at the end of his song Let Me Roll It.
Other performers at this year's festival, which took place between June 11th and 13th, included The Strokes, Jay-Z, Vampire Weekend and Florence and the Machine.Posted on 14 Jun 2010 11:08 to category : Band / Celebrity News
