br /> Appearing in a Computer Music guide to guitar recording tips on the MusicRadar website, the expert suggested that the recording process should be approached in three stages, with the guitar at the top of the agenda.

"The guitar is absolutely number one in the signal chain and therefore needs to be set up properly beforehand," he remarked.

After that, musicians should look at their amp set-up and then consider exactly what sound they are after.

Mr Dunkley stated that a flexible plug-in can help to avoid problems with finding the right tone, while listening to music in depth can assist people to work out what sound they want.

Earlier this month, Josh Freese of The Vandals advised would-be drummers among MusicRadar's readership to make sure they "listen well" to lots of music.
