Great deals on musical instruments

Peter Hook took much convincing to become a DJ as he saw them as "arrogant, overpaid ts".

The Joy Division and New Order bassist "valiantly resisted" playing other people's records in clubs because he didn't understand why people would want to play anyone else's music.

He said: "The second best job in the world is getting paid to play other people's music - the best job in the world is playing your own.

"I'd been resisting it valiantly for years because I used to think that DJs were arrogant, overpaid ts -and then I realised how much I fitted in."

Peter has since realised that it is through Djing the bassist keeps up with new music and gives him a fresh perspective on different types of music.

He added: "It's great because you know what the kids are listening to and you realise why you started making music in the first place."

Peter - who formed New Order in 1980 with Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert, on the ashes of their previous band, Joy Division, after the group's singer, Ian Curtis, killed himself - will also be back playing bass, performing Joy Division's debut, 'Unknown Pleasures', in full to mark the thirty years that have passed since the band were together.

He said: "It's 30 years since Joy Division and I want to celebrate the music we made together. It's unfortunate not to be able to do it with Steve and Bernard, but I wasn't going to let it go because this album laid the road for my life.

"If nobody else comes and it ends up with just me playing to a couple of mates, I don't care, because those songs were such an important part of my life and I'm going to celebrate those 30 years - and if anyone else wants to come along for the ride, then great."
