Piano player Spektor calls mainstream music 'formulaic'
The woman behind songs like Human of the Year, Samson, Consequence of Sound and Better suggested in the Telegraph that the structures employed in some samey songs are unattractive to her.
"Mainstream music has been cornered into a dead end. It's formulaic," she said in the recent interview.
"When you're reading beautiful haikus, you never think this is too structured. But when I hear another song that is just like every other, then the structure is like a bad smell. It crushes you."
Spektor's latest LP, What We Saw From the Cheap Seats, hit shelves back in May, treating fans to songs such as Ballad of a Politician, Firewood and Patron Saint.
Her past, piano-flavoured tunes include Us, Chemo Limo and Poor Little Rich Boy.
According to Spektor's Facebook page, she's set to take in the likes of Madrid, Berlin and Moscow for future gigs.
She has also sung on a song with Ben Folds called You Don't Know Me.
