Piano player set to realise his dream at Berkeley Castle

A piano player will achieve a lifetime ambition to play in the Great Hall at Berkeley Castle.

A piano player will at last achieve his childhood dream this Sunday when he plays the French-made Playel grand piano in the Great Hall at Berkeley Castle.

Dorian Keilhack, 44, from Erlangen in Germany, was 14 when he visited England and fell in love with the piano at the castle, reported Bristol Evening Post.

Having already learnt how to play the piano as a child he was tempted to give it a go, but unfortunately the rules "forbade" anyone from touching that piano.

But that is all in the past now as on Sunday, Mr Keilhack will finally get his fingers on the piano when he performs a Summer Night's Dream.

Alongside him will be his wife Beate, a violin player, and Christian Hilz on the baritone.

The newspaper reported that the evening of music will include Shakespeare songs by Finzi, Cesar Franck's Sonata for Violin and Piano, and Spohr, Songs for Violin, Baritone and Piano.

In what can only be described as a fantasy dream come true for Mr Keilhack, he will also be performing a modern piece composed by Werner Heider, an "old family friend".

Berkeley Castle was completed by the 12th century. It is a typically Norman fortress and one of the country's best-preserved examples of medieval architecture.
