Playing a musical instrument 'teaches children life skills'
Learning to play a musical instrument can be an important part of a child's development, it has been suggested.
According to an article in the Stirling Observer, youngsters who pick up an instrument have the chance to develop a number of life skills, many of which are laid out in Scotland's Curriculum for Excellence.
"All Stirling Council pupils currently enjoy a progressive, comprehensive and well-tested programme of music teaching that is nurtured in primary schools by the primary music specialists and at high school by the music departments," the report added.
It went on to point that around 250 young musicians from the area will have the opportunity to showcase their talent when they participate in the annual Stirling Schools Concert this Sunday (November 21st).
The Curriculum for Excellence initiative has been designed to provide a flexible, coherent and enriched programme of learning for students aged between three and 18, with the children getting access to a wide range of experiences during their time in the educational system.
