Polydor Records: Lana Del Rey is not manufactured
Ferdy Ungur-Hamilton, president of Polydor Records, blasted the lies that he had signed her up when he first met Lana Del Rey, adding that she was a star who made her own music.
"Lana knows what she wants like few artists I've ever met," Mr Ungur-Hamilton told Q magazine.
"She likes to control every aspect of her career. Often we come across someone who is really good at writing songs or singing them, but Lana is that rare thing – someone who can do it all."
Del Rey shot to fame with her debut single Video Games, in which her old school vocals captivated fans and critics alike.
The 25-year-old singer-songwriter has described herself as a "gangster Nancy Sinatra".
Her debut album, Born to Die, is set to be released later this month and is expected to top the charts on both sides of the Atlantic.
