Pre-school kids to learn violin
Bamboo Shoots, which is the first Chinese language pre-school in Westfield New Jersey, believes that music helps children develop the skills needed to succeed when they go onto proper education.
The lessons will be delivered by Alisa Wyrick, who is keen to bring her passion and expertise to the youngsters, reported NJToday.com.
"Alisa is a tremendous addition to our already talented and dedicated staff. We know that music study can improve a child's sense of self-esteem and social skills, but studies are now confirming that music instruction positively affects academic performance," said Danielle Marino, the school's director.
"Math and reading are improved by learning rhythms and decoding notes and symbols, so this is a perfect complement to our academic curriculum."
The violin lessons will be based around the Suzuki Method. Developed in the mid-20th century by a Japanese violinist called Shin'ichi Suzuki, the Suzuki Method, is based on the idea that everyone has musical ability.
This can be nurtured through creating the right environment – positive energy for example.
"I want to make good citizens. If a child hears fine music from the day of his birth and learns to play it himself, he develops sensitivity, discipline and endurance. He gets a beautiful heart," Mr Suzuki once said.
