Prince set to play gold Fender Stratocaster
The star is to perform on a specially-made gold Fender Stratocaster when he plays at one of his Welcome 2 America concerts in New Jersey tonight (December 15th 2010).
Once he has used the instrument on stage, it will be auctioned off to raise money for the Harlem Children's Zone, reports FrontRow, the official Fender blog.
The making of the instrument came about after Prince told representatives of the company he had experienced a dream in which he played a gold version of a Fender Stratocaster.
He wondered if such an electric guitar could be produced in real life and Fender took on the challenge, with the company's custom shop master builder Yuriy Shishkov given the task of creating the unique musical instrument.
Prince has a busy couple of months ahead of him, with three gigs lined up for Madison Square Gardens in New York before the end of January 2011.
He is to play the famous venue on December 18th, returning to the arena again on December 29th and January 18th. Â
