Public 'want Abba reunion'
Music fans hankering for the good old days prefer pop to rock, the findings of a new survey by PRS for Music suggest.
When quizzed about which great band of yesteryear they would most like to see reform, a quarter of people said Abba.
That gave the Swedish pop group almost twice as much support as the next most popular choice, The Police, who obtained 13 per cent of the votes despite only recently having completed a comeback tour.
Pink Floyd finished third, ahead of guitar bands The Smiths, Oasis and The Jam.
Only four per cent of those quizzed want to see another Spice Girls reunion.
Fans may be being overly optimistic if they expect that some of the bands named will actually reform.
Abba's songwriting team have plenty to keep them occupied in the world of musicals following the success of Mamma Mia!, while Pink Floyd's Roger Waters is believed to be considering touring The Wall as a solo project.
Morrissey and Paul Weller have long maintained that they have no interest in reforming the groups in which they found fame, while a reconciliation between the Gallagher brothers looks unlikely following the guitar-smashing row that led to the end of Oasis.Posted on 25 Nov 2009 17:04 to category : Band / Celebrity News
