Electric guitar player Brian May has revealed that talks about a movie version of Queen musical We Will Rock You are underway.

Speaking to BBC Points West, the musician stated that the idea of putting the story on the silver screen has been around for a while.

However, May said it had been difficult to get enough interest in the project until movie companies witnessed the film adaptation of Abba musical Mamma Mia! become a smash hit.

"Now everyone is saying 'where's the We Will Rock You movie?'," May stated.

The electric guitar player added that writer Ben Elton has already come up with a script, which he described as slightly grittier than the stage version.

We Will Rock You opened in the West End in 2002 and is currently being staged at the Bristol Hippodrome.

The production includes many Queen hits and album tracks including I Want It All, Radio Ga Ga, Seven Seas of Rhye, Ogre Battle and Tie Your Mother Down.
