Queen of the Stone Age once performed an appendectomy backstage at one of their concerts.

The 'No One Knows' rockers were forced to remove an unnamed female's appendix after a show in Munich, Germany, and while they didn't use anaesthetic to take the pain away, the impromptu operation was a success.

Guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen recalled: "Do you wanna hear something? There was one time when we performed an appendectomy, backstage. We forgot the anaesthesia.

"I do know how to perform these operations, but I'd had too much to drink that day. But she's okay.

"It's actually a legal matter- It's a medical slash legal matter and I can't say much more than that."

Despite his claims, neither Troy nor any other members of the band - Josh Homme, Joey Castillo, Michael Shuman and Dean Fertita ¬- are known to have any official medical qualifications.

The group are also busy working on their sixth album, which Troy says it is being recorded at a relaxed pace.

He added to website fasterlouder.com.au: "We're a band that doesn't push things, things naturally happen, and they are, and we're kinda sprinkling this year with some touring and then doing some recording."

Queen of the Stone Age announced earlier this week they will perform their first album in full on a string of dates in Australia and the US in March before a full European tour in May.
