Radiohead drummer: New solo record is leap of faith
Phil Selway, the man normally found behind the drum kit in Radiohead, has described his new solo record as a "leap of faith".
He told Pitchfork that he started thinking about making the album, which is entitled Familial, a while ago.
"I've been playing guitar and writing songs since I was 15 but I started really thinking about making an album around four years ago," the musician said.
Selway added that he was held back by a lack of confidence in his singing abilities and it took a fair amount of "trial and error" before he was ready to go into the studio.
Drumming duties on the record were taken up by Wilco's Glenn Kotche, who Selway said has a very similar way of working to his Radiohead bandmate Jonny Greenwood.
The musician has a string of dates lined up to promote his new album in the near future, including an appearance at Bestival.
