The Red Hot Chili Peppers have upped the marketing game with promotion of their new studio album by enlisting the help of a renowned street artist.

It comes on the back of the band releasing a picture of the front cover their album I'm With You, which was designed by the contemporary British artist Damien Hirst.

According to TMZ, Mr Brainwash is to knock up a series of artworks all around Los Angeles ahead of the album release, which is coming out on August 30th.

The artist first made his name when he starred in the documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop, which was about his British counterpart, the famous Banksy.

These latest efforts from the famous US rock band is seen a surprise move in the industry given that the latest marketing efforts from international musicians have tended to focus on heavy promotion online.

Coldplay recent took to Twitter, the Kaiser Chiefs offered fans the ability to make their own version of their latest album via an interactive website and Icelandic star Björk is finishing off a number of apps to coincide with her new album Biophilia.

The band's bass guitar player, Flea, recently revealed to Spinner that the band had always had small breaks here and there throughout their career, but never one which felt like that it was end.
