Red Hot Chili Peppers will be performing for a very special guest later this year as the Dalai Lama visits Portland, Oregon.

His Holiness will be making an appearance at Maitripa College on May 11th as part of the Dalai Lama Environmental Summit, and will be treated to a show from the US rockers.

It has been a whirlwind year for Red Hot Chili Peppers who have been touring non-stop, and recently headlined Coachella Festival in California.

A press release from Consequence of Sound read: "The musical element of this event is intended to be a display of joyful celebration and an inspiration to future generations to care for our planet. The Red Hot Chili Peppers have been great supporters of the Tibetan cause, of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and of the need to work to protect and preserve our environment."

Red Hot Chili Peppers released their last album I'm With You in 2011 and have been embarking on a relentless touring schedule that has seen them play all across the globe ever sine. They last touched down on British soil in November 2011.
