Respected guitar maker dies
Roman, who started making guitars as a kid turned pro in 1976 after a period of fixing up motorcycles.
He soon established himself as the go-to man for guitar heroes wanting an expert to produce instruments that would end up as their most prized possessions.
Some of these stars included The Who's John Entwistle, The Animals' Eric Burdon and Ted Nugent.
His daughter, Lindsay Star Roman, paid tribute to her father.
"He's going to be remembered with a smile," she told the Associated Press.
"And he's certainly going to be immortalized through his guitars."
In his spare time he played on the bass guitar and sang. He had been recording an album as well.
Mr Roman was a vocal force in the bespoke guitar-making business and did a lot to promote the efforts of independent craftsmen.
John Callaghan, editor of Guitar & Bass Magazine, recently said youngsters should look to music stars for inspiration when looking to by a music instrument.
