Rock bands clean up at Q Awards
Electric guitar-based rock performed strongly at this year's Q Awards, with bands such as Kasabian and Muse walking away with honours.
Kasabian's recent LP West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum was named the best album of the year, while Muse won the best act in the world gong.
Arctic Monkeys also secured a trophy at the event, as they were named the best live act.
Veteran artists including former Led Zeppelin vocalist Robert Plant were also honoured.
The rock legend, who is currently collaborating with Alison Krauss, won the Outstanding Contribution to Music award.
Meanwhile, Irish rock band U2 were given the classic album gong for their 1984 smash The Unforgettable Fire.
Paul Rees, editor-in-chief of Q magazine, commented: "I hope the awards not only highlight the unique breadth of Q's musical world but also the fact that great music remains timeless, enduring and ongoing."
Mancunian rockers Oasis, who split up recently after electric guitar player Noel Gallagher left the band, had been nominated in several categories, but failed to win any awards.Posted on 27 Oct 2009 14:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
