Rufus Wainwright chats to the Queen
Speaking in a recent Daily Mail interview, piano and guitar player Wainwright discussed a recent, brief exchange with the monarch.
“I wanted to tell her about an afternoon I spent with Lord Harewood, her first cousin and the man who launched the English National Opera,” Wainwright said, adding that the Queen was, in his opinion, “touched” by the choice of topic.
The brief natter happened back in March according to the Mail, during an event for Commonwealth Day.
Wainwright also appeared on the most recent edition of Graham Norton's BBC chat show over the weekend, where he gave a rendition of Out of the Game, the lead single from his current LP which hit shelves today. He played a guitar during the song.
Wainwright's highest charting previous LP in the UK was Release the Stars, which spawned single Going to a Town.
He has also told the Mail that he plans to continue to perform the song Hallelujah – a Leonard Cohen composition – in his concerts.
