Rules Change for Taking Instruments On Planes

Rules due to change for taking instruments on planes
The European Parliament has voted that that the rules on bringing instruments on planes should change to allow smaller instruments in the cabin.

It will soon be easier for musicians to travel with their instruments, as the European Parliament voted in favour of a revision to Air Passenger Rights. The vote now means that 'the air carriers must accept smaller instruments into the passenger cabin and must clearly indicate the terms and conditions for the transport of larger instruments in the cargo hold.’

Over 40,000 people signed a petition lauched by the Musician's Union to clarify the rules.

The luggage restrictions will now be put before the European Council to decide exactly what counts as a smaller instrument.

John Smith, General Secretary of the Musician's Union has said, "The issue has always been that existing laws allow each airline to set their own policy regarding musical instruments, and this proposal would bring much-needed uniformity and fairness."
