Ryan Gosling strums musical instrument in New York
Ryan Gosling has taken to the streets of New York to show off his funky lute.
The 30 year-old actor, who has been applauded for his brilliant performance alongside Michelle Williams in the dramatic Blue Valentine, was snapped by the Daily Mail strumming a baglamas as he took a stroll in the spring sunshine.
The baglamas, which was attached around his neck by a piece of string, is a small long necked bowl-lute with three-strings and is popular in Turkish folk music. It is similar to a bouzouki.
Gosling, who has starred in films like the romantic The Notebook and cult classic Half Nelson, is a keen musician, and formed the band Dead Man's Bones with his friend Zach Shields. They released their debut album in 2009.
He plays slightly more conventional music instruments in the group, taking on the roles of singer, guitar player and bass guitarist.
It's no surprise to learn of his musical credentials. As a child, Gosling was one of the child stars on the hit American TV show The Mickey Mouse Club, performing alongside pop superstars like Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera.
He will be next seen in the comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love alongside Steve Carell and Julianne Moore, which hits the screens in July.
