Santigold: Music industry disappoints me
Known for expressing her views very candidly, the urban-new wave star told Pitchfork Media that artists no longer had to produce brilliant songs to be huge – anything goes.
She explained that it is not anything specific that she dislikes about the music industry.
"I think there's a lack of true art, and the fanfare is valued over actual substance," she told the online news provider.
A firm favourite with Kanye West, Jay-Z and MIA, Santigold gave the example of LMFAO performing at the Super Bowl in the US. The band are known for being over-the-top, kitsch and trashy.
"Aren't they a joke band? That type of [rubbish] makes me cry," she added.
She doesn't hate everyone, she was keen to admit. Adele for example, is one artist she likes, citing the Brit singer's voice as being something amazing.
Santigold will release her new album Master of My Make-Believe sometime in spring this year.
