Soca take control of RnBXclusive
Users who regularly visit the website were met with a new page that stated: "Soca has taken control of this domain name. The majority of music files that were on this website were stolen from artists."
The agency added in red typeface that anyone who had previously downloaded music from RnBXclusive "may have" committed a criminal offence; one which carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years imprisonment.
Soca explained that this bust, which lasted around 32 hours, was part of a wider programme to crack down on abuses and protect businesses and the economy.
"The website in question specialised in RnB and enabled access to music obtained by hacking, including some which had not yet been released," it stated.
"IFPI [International Federation of the Phonographic Industry] estimates losses to legitimate businesses and artists caused by the site to be £15m a year. During the week running up to arrest phase the website had 70,000 users daily, mainly males aged 18 to 25 years."
