Songwriter Jerry Leiber passes away
Songwriter Jerry Leiber has passed away at the age of 78 after suffering heart failure.
He leaves behind a legacy of over 200 songs which have been recorded by the greatest ever artists, including Elvis Presley, who made Hound Dog and Jailhouse Rock famous and Stand By Me, which was covered by Ben E King and used in the film of the same name.
Along with his song writing partner Mike Stoller, Lieber also penned hits for musical greats such as James Brown, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Buddy Holly and BB King.
Commenting on the loss of his co-writer and long-time friend, Stoller said: "He was my friend, my buddy, my writing partner for 61 years. He had a way with words. There was nobody better. I'm going to miss him."
Lieber was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame two years later.
This week also marked the death of famed songwriter Nick Ashford of the famous duo Ashford and Simpson, who died following a battle with throat cancer.
Along with his wife Valerie Simpson, Ashford wrote hits such as Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Reach Out And Touch Somebody's Hand and I'm Every Woman.
