Sonisphere books the 'Big 4' for 2011
Sonisphere Festival organisers have pulled off a coup by booking four of the top electric guitar bands in the world to appear on the same night at the bash.
The 'Big 4' quartet of Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax will play on the same stage for the first time in British history on the Friday night (July 8th) of the 2011 event.
Earlier this year, the bands played together at several of the European-based Sonisphere festivals, but did not manage to visit Britain.
Anthrax guitar player Scott Ian said the confirmation that the bands will play at the Knebworth event next year was like an early Christmas present for him.
"The shows we did together with our brothers in Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth were not only the high point of 2010, but also some of the best shows Anthrax have ever played," he remarked.
Festival organisers have previously announced two of the headline acts for the gathering's other nights, with Biffy Clyro taking to the stage on the Saturday and Slipknot playing on Sunday.
It will be the latter band's first live UK show without founding member Paul Gray, who died earlier this year.
