Stars unite for 'Cage Against the Machine'
A host of stars have got together in the studio in a bid to beat this year's X Factor winner to the Christmas number one spot.
The likes of Suggs, Orbital and Pendulum have decided to take a stand against the reality show by remaking John Cage's experimental piece 4'33'', a track which features four minutes and 33 seconds of silence in a recording studio, reports BBC 6 Music.
Its follow-up has been dubbed Cage Against the Machine, in recognition of the successful attempt by internet campaigners to get Rage Against the Machine to the festive number one spot last year.
The politically-charged band's Killing in the Name song, originally recorded in 1992, beat the odds to outsell last year's X Factor champion Joe McElderry.
Producer Paul Epworth, who masterminded the latest version of 4'33'', said the composition is actually the sound of performers playing nothing rather than a recording of complete silence, meaning various muffled sounds can be heard on the track.
There are some hopes it could make it to the much sought-after Christmas number one position, as the Cage Against the Machine Facebook fan page currently has more than 73,000 followers.
This has led Ladbrokes to offer odds of 8-1 on it taking the top spot prior to December 25th this year.
Other acts who made it into the studio for the recording included Mr Hudson and Dan Le Sac and Scroobius Pip.
An online release of the recording will take place on December 13th and all of the money raised by the campaign will go to charity.
It is not yet clear which X Factor contestant Cage Against the Machine will be competing against, as the final of the competition is due to take place this weekend (December 11th and 12th).
Still in the running to be crowned champion of the ITV1 show are One Direction, Rebecca Ferguson, Matt Cardle and Cher Lloyd.
