Steve Jobs resigns from Apple
The man behind Apple and all the music software spin-offs has resigned, explaining that he could no longer fulfill his role as chief executive.
Steve Jobs, 56, who co-founded the multinational company in 1976, had been on medical leave since January.
He was reported to have undergone a liver transplant a few years ago, and has long being fighting against a rare type of pancreatic cancer as well as other illnesses.
In a letter to the company's board of directors, the technology pioneer wrote: "I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know.
"Unfortunately, that day has come."
However, Jobs will still have an active role within Apple, a company which has not only transformed the way people use computers, but has radically altered the way people listen, buy and engage with music.
"I believe Apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role," he said.
