Summer NAMM 2016: New Ibanez Artwood Vintage Thermo-Aged Acoustic Guitars
The Japanese guitar firm has become the latest company to introduce thermo-aging technology to their guitar lines.
The thermo-aging process is done by drying the tonewood at a high temperature in a low oxygen environment. Ibanez call this process 'baking' or 'torrefaction'. This method helps the wood become lighter, added stability and more resonance.
The range includes the AVD10 and AVD9. Both are dreadnought-shaped, however, there are some differences. The 10 has a thermo-aged solid sitka spruce top and thermo aged solid mahogany back and mahogany sides. The 9 conversely has the thermo aged solid sitka spruce top with mahogany back and sides.
There are also 2 parlour-shaped guitars in the form of the AVN10 and AVN9 as well as 2 grand concert guitars - the AVM10 and the AVC9.
Ibanez anticipate that these acoustics are due later this year.
