Surf guitar legend still loves playing
Dick Dale has revealed that he still gets a buzz from playing his electric guitar on stage at the age of 72.
The 72-year-old has been performing since the 1950s and over the years, he has become known as the King of the Surf Guitar.
Speaking to TCPalm, he said he acquired the nickname because he created a sound that at the time had never been heard before.
"I would surf from sun up to sun down then go play my Fender Stratocaster at night so loud and fast I would blow up the amp," Dale commented.
The surf guitarist is perhaps best known for the guitar instrumental Miserlou, which was recorded in 1962 and later used on the soundtrack of the Quentin Tarantino film Pulp Fiction.
This record achieved further prominence recently when it was sampled by the Black Eyed Peas on their single Pump It.
