Sweet taste of victory for former Sugababes star
The sweet taste of victory is on the lips of former Sugababes band member Mutya Buena with a court ruling that the singer has the right to use the band's name.
Buena, who left the Sugababes in December 2005, has limited use of the name, which the court said can be used on specific merchandise and stationary, including posters, stickers and flyers.
Clearly elated at her victory, she wrote on her Facebook page: "I won the official name of the Sugababes now!!! I deserve this! I’m over the moon!"
The current line-up doesn't have any of the original founding members left in it, which is perhaps why the musician has been successful in her two-year legal battle.
It is believed that the decision will reap Buena lucrative financial rewards.
Interestingly, the decision follows on from the current band's own legal activities, which saw them trademark the name back in April.
It is unknown what the exact implications of this decision are.
Theoretically, if the original members decided to reform – including Keisha Buchanan and Siobahn Donaghy – they could do so under the Sugababes name.
