Taiwanese students break violin playing record
A total of 4,645 youngsters gathered at a local stadium in Changhua with their music instruments, while an official witness watched them play, reports Taiwan Today.
Children from over 170 local schools played simultaneously for over five minutes.
Previously, the record was for 4,000 stringed instruments which was set in 1925.
As well as setting the new world record, the event marked how far Taiwan has come in terms of musical education.
Traditionally the pastime was the preserve of the rich and wealthy but the local government in Changhua has now set up a scheme to give all students the chance to learn how to play a music instrument.
"We hope that Changhua, the agricultural centre of Taiwan, can also become its musical centre," Cho told Taiwan Today.
Other violin-related world records include the fastest violin player accolade which is held by the UK's Ben Lee.
Mr Lee played Flight of the Bumblebee in 58.515 seconds on July 3rd this year at an event at Rogue Studios in London.
