Tame Impala lands NME Album of the Year
The Australian psychedelic rock band's second record beat off the likes ofLanadelRey, The Cribs and Mercury Music Prize winnersAlt-Jto claim the title from the popular music magazine.
Lonerism, released in October, has received rave reviews all the over the globe and claimed the number one spot in the Australian album charts, while peaking at14thin the UK and34thon the US Billboard 200.
Vocalist and guitarist Kevin Parker spoke of the award toNMEstating: "When you're making an album, it's very difficult to still be in love with it at the end in the same way you were when started it. By the end ofLonerism, I was doubting everything. I worked myself into a state of mind where I was questioning everything."
Among the top ten albums withinNME'slist were the likes of JakeBugg, The Maccabees, Frank Ocean andDjangoDjangowho were recently announced as the headline act for theNMEAwards Tour.
The 13-date venture across the UK will kick off at Newcastle'sO2Academy on February7th.
