Taylor Guitars Redesigns 800 Series For 40th Anniversary
Taylor have gone back to the drawing board to celebrate their 40 year anniversary.
The iconic rosewood and spruce series has several design modifications, here's what has changed:
Bracing: The new design brings out greater warmth, midrange, balance and sustain.
Protein Glues: These adhesives help energy to tansfer easier, making it move in a different way and producing a clearer, louder sound.
Finish Thickness: Thinner finishes provide benefits to tone, so Taylor have reduced the thickness of their polyester gloss to an average of 3.5 mils, making the guitars louder and more responsive.
Wood Thickness: Taylor have subtly recalibrated the top and back thickness specifications for each model, making the wood optimised to bring out the best of each body shape.
String Gauge: A new type of Elixer strings, HD Light, have been developed together with Master Luthier Andy Powers. The set brings a bolder, stronger high-end and a fuller, warmer low end, specifically to the updated Grand Concert and Grand Auditorium models.
Pickup: On top of the already-enhanced acoustic voice of the new models, each new electro-acoustic 800 Series guitar features Taylor's new Expression System 2 (ES2), incorporating three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated pickup sensors. Installed behind the saddle and through the bridge, ES2 effectively captures more of each guitar's dynamic properties and acoustic energy.
Aesthetics: The new 800 Series models have an updated look, too. New binding and purfling, fretboard inlays, rosette and backstrip, along with a rosewood pickguard and marbled ebony fretboards refresh the range.
A credit to Taylor Guitar's well-practiced manufacturing techniques, the new appointments can be rolled out on a larger scale, usually refinements reserved for the most special edition, high-end models.
