Teenager wins 2011 Robert Johnson Award
Matthew Davison, 13, is a talented guitar player and vocalist and tipped for big things after picking up this award.
Shreveport Times reported that the youngster's prizes included a Gibson Robert Johnson L-1 guitar and the opportunity to perform at a future foundation event.
"It's an award given out annually to guitarists 12 to 18 years old that helps young kids like myself keep interested in the blues and respect the blues," Matthew said.
Gibson describes the guitar as "capturing the haunting, timeless sound of the man whose legacy and contributions to the blues are unmatched".
Robert Johnson was a renowned blues guitar player of the early Twentieth Century, and has influenced the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan.
Speaking about the youngster Johnson's grandson Robert, vice president of the foundation, told the news provider: "His style was kind of advanced for his age. It was crisp; it was professional. His style with that electric guitar was amazing."
