The Arctic Monkeys have gone back to basics with their new studio album, Suck It and See, which has seen the band revert to more traditional recording techniques.

The thunderous guitar riffs are still in place, as is much of their sharp lyrical wordplay, but this time, in the recording studio, the band did a lot of live takes together to get a "more human feel".

Speaking to Reuters, frontman Alex Turner said that the band's new album was mellow in parts but equally frantic like the "chimey guitar thing".

He said: "I guess probably compared with the first two, it is not as fast and crazy as they were. But it has moments like that - bit of both."

When also asked about the evident comparisons with Oasis when they first emerged as a serious music outfit, the band said they didn't mind being compared to the Manchester legends.

Turner said that the comparisons were obvious enough – both bands are British and both bands play rock and roll.

When the Guardian recently asked the band how they coped with playing huge live gigs to smaller intimate gigs, they replied by saying that it wasn't always about that massive high – they "want to get better rather than bigger".
