The Artist Formerly Known As Prince Has Died Aged 57
The cause of death is still to be confirmed. The news has rocked the world of music who have been inspired by his musical innovations.
Throughout his career, Prince sold more than 100 million records - covering a plethora of genres from R&B, funk right through to pop.
Prince, born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, was self taught on a number of different instruments and produced, arranged and performed the majority of his hits. He came to prominence in the 1980s with iconic albums such as Purple Rain and 1999.
Tributes have poured in for Prince from celebrities across the globe following his death.
Madonna tweeted: "He changed the world!! A true visionary. What a loss. I'm devastated. This is Not A Love Song."
Guns 'n' Roses guitarist Slash also tweeted: "So sad to hear of Prince's passing; one of the greatest musical talents of my lifetime. Maybe of the 20th Century. RIP."
