The Beatles' original drummer to see streets in Liverpool named after him
Pete Best, known as the original drummer in The Beatles, is to have two streets in Liverpool named after him in his honour.
It comes after a Facebook campaign saw 10,000 people show overwhelming support for the drummer to be recognised for his services to possibly the biggest rock band the world has ever known.
The streets will be named Pete Best Drive and Casbah Close on a new estate that is to be built on Everton's former training ground.
Casbah is a reference to the Casbah Club, which is where The Beatles first began their music career, little knowing the impact they would have on the music world.
Speaking to the BBC, Best said: "I feel very humbled, very flattered and very honoured that the city of Liverpool, council members and the people of Liverpool have thought to honour me in such a fantastic way."
He also added that the reference to Casbah Close was particularly poignant as his mother Mona set up the important venue.
The Scottish Beatles Weekend Festival in Dundee kicks off in early August, the first of its kind in the country.
It will include music, art, films and all-things related to The Beatles.
