The Courteneers' new album 'inspired by Morrissey tour'

Time spent on the tour bus with keyboards and guitars helped inspire The Courteeners to write their new album, it has been revealed.

Liam Fray, the singer and electric guitar player in The Courteneers, has revealed that many of the songs on the band's second album were written during their US tour with Morrissey.

But it wasn't the former frontman of The Smiths that inspired the new record – Fray said that the time the band spent together on the tour bus was the vital factor.

"We had keyboards and shakers and guitars on the bus and it was a really fertile, creative time for us," the electric guitar player told the Guardian.

He added that he feels The Courteeners are one of the few guitar bands at the moment that are attempting to push musical boundaries.

Earlier this week, The Courteeners were added to the bill for the forthcoming Teenage Cancer Trust gigs at the Royal Albert Hall.

The band will provide support to Noel Gallagher, who is performing his first solo shows at the event since leaving Oasis last year.
