The Drums berate modern pop
The Drums feel there is no "melody or sincerity" in modern pop tracks.
The 'Best Friend' indie group categorise themselves as a pop group, but say their definition of pop music is very different to what they hear on the radio, both in sound and in its intention.
Singer Jonathan Pierce told BANG showbiz: "There's our definition of a pop band, then there's the popular definition of a pop band. They're two separate ideas, kind of opposites."
"Pop to us deals more with the melody, sincerity, relatability, and these are things that are severely lacking in what most people consider pop music - they have no melody and there's no sincerity (sic)."
His bandmate, guitarist Jacob Graham added: "It comes from greedy people who want to make lots of money. And the idea of being the coolest. It's not cool anymore to sing s pretty, straightforward pop song."
The 'Let's Go Surfing' group - which sees Jonathan and Jacob joined by drummer Connor Hanwick and live guitarist Tom Hanlow - also said they have trouble figuring out which instruments they are listening to on some records.
Jonathan added: "The songs that are dominating the charts are kind of frustrating to listen to as someone who makes music, because you don't understand - maybe it's just us being out of touch - but we don't understand where the sounds - that swish noise - where it comes from ,it's just layers on layers of strange sounds.
"All made on a desktop computer, no instrument, no people, probably made in somewhere that looks like an office."
