The Edge 'has plenty of Gibson guitars in his collection'
U2 star The Edge has a large number of Gibson electric guitars in his possession.
According to Ted Drozdowski, a contributor to the official Gibson Lifestyle blog, his signature instrument since U2 formed has been the Explorer, with the musician preferring to make use of a limited edition model from 1976 that he owns.
Mr Drozdowski said The Edge has made his name as one of the "craftiest tone benders" in music thanks to his clever use of echo and delay, as well as an extensive pedalboard.
"He doesn't just use vintage and modern delay units, from the Echo-Plex to Boomerangs, but also employs feedback and the E-Bow to get his notes to sing with operatic grace," the commentator added.
The Edge and the rest of U2 have a busy 2011 ahead of them, with massive live shows planned in venues around the world.
They are to play gigs in South Africa, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and the US over the course of the year.
