The Smiths will 'reunite' if government steps down
Johnny Marr made the audacious claim at the recent NME Awards at London's O2 Brixton Academy.
As the band's famous and outspoken former guitarist, the comments raised a lot of eyebrows.
Prime minister David Cameron, a self-declared Smiths' fan, has not commented on Marr's proposal to usher in a new era of politics, after which would see the return of the ever-popular 80s rock band.
Marr said it was a "fair trade" and that the country would be better off all around with The Smiths back.
When asked by NME if the band's continuing popularity would get him and Morrissey talking about making music together again, he said they were both very busy doing their own thing.
"We go through periods of time when we're in communication and at times when we're not," he added. "I'm not sure he wants to communicate, so I'll just carry on doing what I'm doing, and live my life and be a musician."
