Django Django and The Twilight Sad are among the bands shortlisted for the 2013 edition of the Scottish Album of the Year Award.

They have been named in the top ten and will battle it out for the prestigious accolade going up against the likes of Karine Polwart, Lau, Paul Buchanan, Human Don't Be Angry, Stanley Odd, RM Hubbert and Lau.

Django Django's self-titled debut album has been a roaring success for the group gaining rave reviews from music publications. NME scored the album an eight out of ten while it was listed at number 26 on Rolling Stone's top 50 albums of 2012.

The Twilight Sad's No Can Ever Know is the band's fourth studio album and also was met with a host of positive reviews with Pitchfork, Drowned in Sound and the BBC all praising it.

Big names such as Calvin Harris and Emelie Sande both missed out on the shortlist despite having a successful past year.

John Williamson, chair of the independent panel of judges at the Glasgow Academic, said: "Although there was a strong longlist including some hugely commercially successful albums, the ten chosen for the short list are those that best reflect the range of music made by Scottish artists in 2012. It includes debut albums and ones by people who have been making music for 30 years."

The winner will be announced at Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow on June 20th.
