The Who to be honoured in US
Electric guitar player Pete Townshend and singer Roger Daltrey are set to be honoured at a special event in New York.
The legendary rockers made their name in The Who with drummer Keith Moon and bass guitar player John Entwistle.
Despite the deaths of Moon and Enwistle, Townshend and Daltrey are still touring and recording under The Who banner.
Their music will now be honoured by artists such as Robyn Hitchcock and The Smithereens in a tribute gig at the Carnegie Hall in March.
Michael Dorf, founder of Knitting Factory, commented: "I grew up listening to The Who.
He noted that while the artists on the bill are incredibly diverse, they all share "a certain authenticity" that has defined the band's music.
The Who first rose to prominence in the early 1960s with hits such as I Can't Explain and My Generation.
This was followed by a string of rock classics, including Won't Get Fooled Again, Baba O'Reilly, Pinball Wizard and Pictures of Lily.Posted on 24 Dec 2009 17:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
