The former Oasis songwriter and guitarist has revealed that he can take his time now.
The former Oasis star explained that when it now comes to making music in the studio he doesn't have to worry about where bandmates are and can "work at his own pace", he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
This, he said, was very important to him, giving him the freedom to work how he wants to work.
Speaking to the newspaper, Noel said: "I know when I write a song now how it's going to sound when I finish it in the studio. If I Had a Gun is obviously a love song but I know what it's about.
"When I'm singing I know what it means, I know who the person is, I can deliver its sentiment a little bit better."
He added that, in hindsight, he can now see how his brother Liam might have found it difficult to be in Oasis because he was singing someone else's songs.
Noel has made a successful transition from band member to solo musician. His debut studio album High Flying Birds was one of the biggest selling rock/indie albums of 2011.
