The xx win Mercury Music Prize
Electric guitar band The xx have won the Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize.
The group's debut album xx was named as the best British album of the past year, with the band beating off competition from the likes of Paul Weller, Dizzee Rascal, Foals, Laura Marling and Mumford and Sons.
As they collected the £20,000 prize money and the award, guitar player Romy Croft said that The xx may invest in new studio equipment with their winnings.
"We made this album in a converted garage the size of a bathroom," she stated.
Past winners of the prestigious award include the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Elbow and Klaxons.
The xx are due to play at Bestival on the Isle of Wight on September 10th 2010, before the electric guitar band head to the US and Canada for a series of shows.
They will be appearing in cities including Los Angeles, New York, Toronto and Montreal.
