Train station piano proposal could see light of day

The proposal to erect a piano at a train station is to be debated later this month.

A proposal from a Carlsbad resident to set up a public piano at the local train station might see the light of day.

Don Christiansen pitched the idea to officials at the North County Transit District (NCTD), which operates the train station, and it appears that some of them think it's a really good idea, reported the North County Times.

It is believed that they are set to give the project the green light later this month at a meeting.

However, even if they do vote in favour of the idea, Mr Christiansen still needs to get his hands on a piano.

He told the newspaper: "We're not looking for a concert-grade piano. We're looking for something for fun and entertainment."

Alex Wiggins, a spokesman for the NCTD, himself a keen saxophone player, said that they were really interested in the idea as they have been looking at ways of making their stations "lively, vibrant places where the community gathers".

The charity Big Brothers Big Sisters, which delivers a mentoring programme with young people, recently received several offers for pianos to replace a public piano that was damaged by vandals in Lancaster County.
